Overview
To teach participants how to access and use Civil War era song sheets from digitized resources available through the Library of Congress to enhance student understanding of the events and viewpoints of the American Civil War.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• analyze Civil War era song sheets in order to glean historical information that would place the time the song was written.
• use Civil War era song sheets to illustrate how viewpoints of various groups differed during the Civil War.
• use Civil War era song sheets to illustrate how viewpoints changed during the time period (1861-1865).
• use a timeline of the Civil War period to organize historical documents into the appropriate order to indicate how the events during the period influenced public opinion.
